George was a soldier in the Service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company Cavens of the 65th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. This Company was originally commanded by Captain Caven and later by Captain A. Rudolph. George enlisted in May 1862 and was in the Army until February 15, 1864 (1865). George had to be brought home on furlough by his brother, Earles Adams. He died March 3, 1864 (1865) from pneumonia or typhoid fever that he contracted in the Army (information found in pension papers filed by Lizzie). In the book, Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865 in the muster roll of Company C, 65th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, CSA.,White County Georgia, "Dixie Rangers" he is listed as: Adams, George H. Paroled at Thomasville, Ga., as a private in 5th Regt. Ga. Inf., Reserves, May 10, 1865." Pension records state that he died of typhoid fever, March 1865, while at home on sick furlough. He is said to be buried at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery but I have not been able to find the stone.
