Saint Paul United Methodist in Lumpkin County was founded in 1878. The land was given by Thomas Montgomery and the timber by A. S. Whelchel. It was cut by Lewis Keith and members. Completion was obtained about 1883, with a membership of 25 and Rev. Sewell as pastor. On December 9, 1901, A. H. Montgomery sold 3 1/4 acres to St. Paul Trustees for $16.50, to be utilized as a burial ground.
